Hideaway Lodges Location

Location

Our luxury self-catering lodges are situated in Drumlang Woods at Gruline, 2 miles from the village of Salen. Being located centrally at Gruline on the Isle of Mull, Hideaway Lodges provides the perfect base to explore the island for walkers and cyclists alike and is also an ideal location for bird and wildlife enthusiasts. We are passionate about our environment and happy to provide details of walks, cycle rides and great places to spot wildlife. Also, if you are a keen cyclist, we provide a bike shed to store your bicycles.

Ferries

We are very lucky to have a choice of 3 different ferry routes to the island, with the shortest crossing being around 20 minutes from Lochaline on the Morvern peninsula to Fishnish (Mull). This is a particularly scenic drive through Glen Coe and then the beautiful Morvern peninsula via the speedy Corran ferry shuttle service (approx 10 mins) helping you chill out and take in the beautiful natural surroundings before arriving on Mull. If you are traveling from northern Scotland or the highlands, the Kilchoan to Tobermory ferry from Ardnamurchan is again another stunning drive and a short ferry crossing to Mull. Alternatively, if you want to take in the sights and sounds of the bustling port of Oban, the Oban to Craignure ferry is a good option. Be aware this ferry needs to be booked in advance and you will need to be in the queue at least 30 minutes prior to the crossing which takes around an hour. Worried about what to do if a ferry is cancelled on the Oban route? There are always the other ferry crossings that you can use to get on or off the island and more information about timetables can be found on the Calmac website.

Electric car charging

If you are coming to the island with an electric car, whilst we are unable to include fueling your car in the price of your lodges stay, rest assured there are public places to charge your car whilst on the island. There are several different charging locations on the Isle of Mull with the nearest to the lodges being located at Knock, Tobermory and at Craignure. Full details of these charging points can be found on the website link below:

Facilites

There is a self-service launderette in Tobermory and we have a washing machine in the shed onsite which guests are welcome to use with the exception of periods of low rainfall where the shed will be closed to conserve drinking water. At Gruline, we are also 10 miles from Tobermory, the main town on the Isle of Mull where there are shops, restaurants and bars. Both the Spar shop in Salen and the Co-op in Tobermory are open 7 days a week so there is no need to worry if you need to buy some provisions on a Sunday.

Connectivity

Please note: Mobile phone reception is poor on the west side of the island but O2, EE contract (not PAYG) and Vodafone will all now work at the lodges. If you are not on one of these networks and if phone connectivity is important during your stay you may wish to get a pay as you go Vodafone or O2 mobile. We have a mobile wifi connection across the lodges and each lodge has a smart tv which runs off the wifi. There are also plenty of cafés & bars on Mull with free wifi including the spar shop in Salen.

If you need us...

Whilst we try not to disturb guests during the course of a break, we always greet guests in person at the start of any holiday and we are just a phone call or a 5 minute drive away should you need us.
